Original Meaning of the Book of Changes compiled by Zhu Xi was an important work of Zhu Xi as well as a great work on Change Theory (Yi Xue) of Song Dynasty. It By taking the Change theories since Han and Wei, integrating divination, image and argumentation, and absorbing the nutrition of Yi Zhuan and Chinese medicine, it became a rather influential explanatory book in the history of the Change Theory. It influenced the official schools of Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties for more than six hundred years, opened a wide interpreting space for Change Theory during hundreds of years, initiated the lasting discussions of numerous scholars and showed an important influence in the history of Change Theory and the history of Chinese ideology. Original Meaning of the Book of Changes is the annotation, written by Zhu Xi, a Confucianist of Song Dynasty, of the Book of Changes (I Ching), representing the top level of Change Theory studies in the Song Dynasty. Original Meaning of the Book of Changes was initially named as Yi Zhuan. The original was based on Old Zhou Yi of Lv Zhuqian, including two classics and ten commentaries, which were separated from each other, in 12 volumes, with phonetic notations taken from Lv Zhuqian.
