Quentin Kennedy was saved, as a small child, from a shipwreck in which his father drowned while his mother was left in France, with no chance to reunite. Quentin was raised in Scotland by Lord and Lady Rohallion and found love in lovely Flora Warrender, but when a moment came to go to war, Quentin went on to seek adventure and family.

James Grant (1822-1887) was a Scottish novelist and miscellaneous writer. He was a prolific author, writing some 90 books. Titles included The Romance of War, Adventures of an Aide-de-Camp, The Scottish Musketeers and The Scottish Cavalier. Many of his novels are about important characters and events in Scottish history. He also wrote about Scottish heroes and heroines caught in some of the most important battles across Europe.
