Wikileaks and the Information Wars

Wiki Leaks represents the world’s first ‚information war.‘ This essay examines Wiki Leaks as a cultural phenomenon. Wiki Leaks constitutes a culture of ‚porosity‘ that contests and overturns the culture – often state-sponsored – of secrecy, a culture of truth-telling, and of hacking. They contribute to the making of witnessing publics which enables the re-making of new public spaces and therefore offer new prospects for democracy.
