Isabel Clarendon is a young woman who gets married and enjoys all the traits that life offers, but it doesn’t lasts. Her husband gets ill and goes through three years of agony before he dies. George Gissing (1857-1903) was an English novelist, who worked as a teacher and tutor throughout his life. He wrote under strong influence of Dickens. His best-known novels include The Nether World, New Grub Street and The Odd Women.
