John Reed (1887-1920) was an American journalist, poet, and revolutionary activist who is best known for his coverage of the Russian Revolution and his book ‘Ten Days That Shook the World, ‘ an eyewitness account of the Bolshevik takeover of Petrograd (now St. Petersburg) in 1917. Reed was a member of the Communist Party of the United States and a committed Marxist, who believed in the revolutionary potential of the working class.
