Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. In the present work the author has stated the psychological factors underlying those forms of nervous reaction, which form the borderline disorders known as hysteria, neurasthenia, psychasthenia and the compulsion neuroses. He has not attempted to give a clinical picture of these reactions, but more especially his object has been to indicate the psychological mechanism of their causation and the principles concerned in their treatment by psycho therapy.
