About the author

Henry Fielding (1707-1754) was a groundbreaking English novelist and satirist famous for such bawdy adventures as Tom Jones. While he began as a playwright, his satirical tone contributed to the ban on satire in English theater. His work as a great humanitarian not only influenced his writing but also led to the founding of London’s first police force.
