Anthony Trollope
The West Indies and the Spanish Main (Barnes & Noble Digital Library)

Dukung

This 1859 travelogue is based on Trollope’s 1858 journey to Jamaica and the Caribbean on government business.  Along the way, he recorded his impressions of the places and people he encountered.  While its racial attitudes are very much of its time, they are, at least, of historical interest, and his character sketches are, as one would expect, both amusing and insightful.

Tentang Penulis

Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) was a quintessential Victorian novelist best known for his series of novels, the Chronicles of Barsetshire, set in the imaginary county of Barsetshire. Tirelessly prolific, he tackled a rich assortment of the political, social, and gender issues of the day. As career employee of the British Postal System, he is credited with introducing the “pillar-box” mailboxes on street corners.
