John Martin Hull (1935 – 2015) war Professor für religiöse Erziehung an der Universität Birmingham. Im Dunkeln sehen, erstmals 1990 erschienen, machte ihn weltberühmt. Unter dem Titel Notes on Blindness wurde das Buch 2016, ein Jahr nach John Hulls Tod, zur Vorlage einer vielfach preisgekrönten Dokufiction, die u. a. auf ARTE gezeigt wurde.
