Since it is not allowed to talk about current politics, Lu Xun talked about culture and fiercely criticized the ugly performance of some intellectuals in Quasi Love Affairs by means of talking about culture. Lu Xun said that his essays "discussed current affairs disregarding others” feelings and reflected the living state of a group of people in the society through typical literary images". In this collection of essays, he chose many types of ugly intellectuals, such as Er Chou, Buying Official Positions, Passing the Imperial Examination, Literary Giants decided through consultation, and so on.
