George Moore
Vain Fortune (Barnes & Noble Digital Library)

Ondersteuning

This 1891 novel was greatly admired by James Joyce. Hubert Price, a struggling young playwright with one moderate success under his belt, is bequeathed a legacy by his uncle.  His focus on repeating his theatrical success, and his love for the beautiful Julia, blinds him to the tragic, obsessive love of his disinherited cousin, Emily.

Over de auteur

George Augustus Moore (1852-1933) was a pioneering modern Irish writer. He had to fight against censorship early in his career. Despite the powerful forces arrayed against him, Moore succeeded in establishing realism as a legitimate literary mode.  His best-known novels include A Mummer’s Wife (1885) and Esther Waters (1894).
