1984 is a political and dystopian science-fiction novel featuring Winston Smith as he re-writes history only to suit the Party and “Big Brother” in Oceania. The world demands absolute obedience and control over everyone through the all-seeing telescreens, any form of independent thinking is concidered a "thought crime. Smith soon rebels and starts a love affair with youthful Julia, then soon realise it's at a cost. George Orwell's dystopian classic, Nineteen Eighty-Four is the most influential book of the twentieth century, introducing terms and concepts, such as Big Brother, doublethink, thoughtcrime, Newspeak, Big Brother and Doublethink.
