Marcel Mauss (1872 – 1950) war ein französischer Soziologe und Ethnologe, der am Collège de France in Paris lehrte. Er stand der politischen Linken nahe und gründete die Zeitschriften Mouvement Socialiste und L”Humanité. Bekanntestes Werk von Mauss, der als Vaterfigur der Anthropologie in Frankreich gilt, ist “Die Gabe” (“Essai sur le don”, 1923/1924).
