He is best recognized for his creation of the iconic space opera character, ‘Buck Rogers’, who first appeared in Nowlan’s novella ‘Armageddon 2419 A.D.’ published in the August 1928 issue of the pulp magazine, Amazing Stories. Nowlan, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a former U.S. Army atmosphere and aviation expert, translated his knowledge into a literary career that significantly influenced the space adventure genre.
