In his poem, Green has given us the finer spirit of the ancestors of many native Americans throughout the republic. Charles Vardell has brought his imagination and distinguished skill to the translation of emotions, ideas, and aspirations into music.

Winner of the 1927 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Paul Green (1894-1981) taught philosophy and drama at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a native of Harnett County, North Carolina.
