The World of Monsters, one of Zhang Henshui”s three social satirical novels, is a hundred ugly pictures of the social life of Chongqing, the capital city during the Anti Japanese War. During the Anti Japanese War, Mr. Ou studied all his life and taught his four children to study hard and be a man. However, Chongqing”s prices were soaring, materials were scarce, and the people were in dire straits. It was difficult to live on wages. As a result, Mr. Ou”s third son gave up his writing and drove to transport and made a fortune; his second son abandoned medicine to do business, leading a well-off life; his eldest son was still an official in the government, and he was in a state of poverty. All the people around him speculate and seek profits only. They were busy day and night to get rich. It is really "the front is fighting while the rear is enjoying!"
