The full name of Tristram Shandy is The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, but the book neither covers the hero”s life story, nor his profound insights. Moreover, the novel has been begun from the "review" to the maternal pregnancy, but most of parts have been used to narrate others” affairs, mainly his father and his uncle”s life and insights, from Terry”s mouth, as Terry”s life has only been mentioned intermittently. The order of the narrative is mess which completely breaks the chronological order of the narrative and only follows the sequence when the events entering into the narrator”s mind. Milan Kundera once put Tristram Shandy into the ranks of the greatest novels in Europe, arguing that although his writings are disorder with no theme but qualified with polyphonic features, which should be the treasure source of the trend of western novels moving towards the stream of consciousness. Indeed, Tristram Shandy is a landmark in the history of British even world novels, the most well-known the bizarre novels in the history of British literature and the world-famous book; Tristram Shandy is both regarded as "the most typical novel in world literature" and the "great source and pioneer of " the modern novel.
