Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Bryant translated many short poems from the Spanish, but his largest literary undertaking was the translation of the Iliad and Odyssey of Homer. He brought to this task great requisite powers, and if there is any failure it is in the absence of Homer’s lightness and rapidity, qualities which the elasticity of the Greek language especially favored.
