Taking the nude female model of art school as the leading role, this paper discusses the conflicts and struggles of women”s body, money, family planning and social values, and describes the vile deeds of fallen scholars and the miserable experiences of poor girls. It is a rare theme in the history of modern Chinese novels and a landmark work in the transformation stage of Zhang Henshui”s creation, which serves as a connecting link between the preceding and the following. It not only continued his creative method of "taking society as the classics and emotion as the latitude" and the keynote of complaining about injustice for the oppressed and exploited people, but also opened the prelude to a series of works that promoted realistic spirit in his later creation.
