The Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, since its inception, has been recognized as a cornerstone of heterocyclic chemistry. Each volume attempts to discuss all aspects – properties, synthesis, reactions, physiological and industrial significance – of a specific ring system. Edward Curtis Taylor, Jr. was an American chemist who designed and synthesized the chemotherapy drug pemetrexed, an inhibitor of purine biosynthesis, with grant support from the U.S. National Cancer Institute, NIH. Taylor studied for his Ph D from 1946 to 1949 at Cornell University with Professor Cornelius Cain.
