Egeon, a traveler from Syracuse, travels to Ephesus in search of his missing twin son who he hasn't seen since the boy was an infant. However, since the cities of Syracuse and Ephesus are having a HUGE quarrel, anyone traveling to Ephesus from Syracuse is either 1. sentenced to death, or 2. must pay a thousand-mark fine.
