Mechanics of High-Contrast Elastic Solids
Contributions from Euromech Colloquium 626

Stöd

This book contains the most recent results in the area of strongly inhomogeneous composite structures, including layered materials as well as continua with microstructure. This collection of papers mainly arises from the Euromech Colloquium No. 626 on “Mechanics of High-Contrast Elastic Composites”. Focus is set on the peculiar mechanical behaviour caused by adjoining widely different structural elements (high contrast) in terms of material and/or geometrical properties.

Professor Dr.-Ing.habil. Dr.h.c.mult. Holm Altenbach is Member of the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics and the International Research Center on Mathematics and Mechanics of Complex Systems (M&Mo CS), Italy. He has held positions at the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg and Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, both in Germany. He graduated from Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1980 (diploma in Dynamics and Strength of Machines) and was awarded his Ph.D. degree in 1983 and his Doctor of Technical Sciences degree in 1987 at the same Institute. He is currently Full Professor of Engineering Mechanics at the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Mechanics (since 2011), where he has been Acting Director since 2015. Since October 1st, 2022, he is retired. His areas of scientific interest include: General theory of elastic and inelastic plates and shells, Creep and damage mechanics, Strength theories, and Nano- and micromechanics.
He is author/co-author/editor of 80 books,  580 scientific papers (310 of which were peer-reviewed) and 550 scientific lectures. He was the Managing Editor (2004 to 2014) and has been Editor-in-Chief (since 2006) of the Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (ZAMM) – the oldest journal in mechanics in Germany (founded by Richard von Mises in 1921). He is the Advisory Editor of the journal Continuum Mechanics and Thermodynamics (Springer), Associate Editor of the journal Mechanics of Composites (Riga) and Editor of the Springer Series “Advanced Structured Materials”.
His numerous awards include: the 1992 Krupp-Award (Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation),  2000 Best paper of the year (Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design),  2003 Gold Medal of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Politechnika Lubelska, Poland,  2004 Semko-Medal of the National Technical University Kharkov, Ukraine,  2007 Doctor honoris causa, National Technical University Kharkov, Ukraine; 2011 Fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science,  2014 Doctor honoris causa, University Constanta, Romania,  2016 Doctor honoris causa, Vekua-Institute, Tbilisi, Georgia,  and 2018 Alexander von Humboldt Award (Poland). In 2019 he was elected as Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and in 2021 of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

This was presented, for example, in the description of ASM 153. In red three misprints and one actual improvement. Please make the necessary changes. If it is possible add also the blue part (see ASM 155). It will be nice if you unify this part for Volums 153, 185, 186, and 188.     Danila Prikazchikov has received his Ph.D. from the University of Salford, UK, in 2004. After working for several years as Associate Professor at Bauman State Technical University, Moscow, he moved to Keele University, UK, in 2013, where he is currently Reader in Applied Mathematics. He has co-authored over 65 publications, including a substantial volume in “Advances in Applied Mechanics”.  The awards and honours of Dr Prikazchikov include two Russian Presidential Fellowships for Young Scientists, along with visiting positions at City University of Hong-Kong, Anadolu University, Turkey, and Visiting Professorship at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. His research interests lie in the area of solid and structural mechanics, including multi-scale modelling, nano- and metamaterials, waves and vibrations, and perturbation techniques.
Andrea Nobili received his Ph.D. in Material Engineering in 2002 at Modena University, where he became Researcher in 2008 and subsequently Associate Professor in Solid Mechanics. He has co-authored 53 papers in International Journals (Scopus) and a University textbook on Dynamics of Structures. He is been awarded the Young Researcher Award in Mathematical Physics (GNFM) for three years and holds several grants. Indeed, he is co-PI of two EU funded projects, including the H2020 MSC-RISE project Effect Fact. He sits in Editorial Board of two Scopus-indexed journals, has been nominated Inventor by the EPO, holds two patents, and he has been Visiting Professor in many Universities. His research interests span from elastodynamics and waveguides, complex materials and composite materials.
