These short essays are the works of Zhang Henshui created when he is mature in mind as the supplement editor. They either strongly attacked the crimes committed by the Japanese aggressors and other fascist countries, or stimulated the enthusiasm for the war of resistance against Japan, inspired the morale of the war, exposed the current social problems and denounced the dark reality, or analyzed the war situation, tactics and international and domestic situations, reported the war situation, made suggestions for the authorities, put forward demands and hopes for certain groups of people in the society, or recalled or commemorated the old people, hometown and stories; expressed his feelings for the war of resistance against Japan.
